Corsica Here We Come!

Our Wedding

Steph and Eric met in September of 2016 in London. Eric had recently started working at a boutique consultancy and the company was hosting an all-hands and training at its HQ in London. Steph was living and working in London at the time – his home since childhood. It was a Friday night and Eric had learned earlier that week that his friend Ryan was also coincidentally in London. Ryan knew of a party that night, and never one to turn down a fun time, Eric met Ryan at a popular nightclub in Shoreditch. Eric distinctly remembers seeing Steph from across the room dancing with a group of girlfriends and thinking how handsome he was, but was dissuaded from approaching by Steph's female entourage. But lo and behold, Steph was suddenly without his accompaniments and Eric made a move – butterflies turned into kisses and before we knew it, what was supposed to be a five day work trip for a new job was extended to a two week "work from company HQ" trip ... but the real reason was Eric had fallen hard for Steph and concocted a scheme to spend more time with him.A weekend trip to Brighton and nighttime walks through London planted a seed that blossomed into a long-distance love story. From a surprise Thanksgiving in North Carolina, to extended work-stays in London, romantic trips to NY, Berlin through Covid, skiing in the Alps, summers across Europe, and a trip to Southeast Asia where Eric popped the question, Steph and Eric found creative ways to be together and thrive in spite of the distance.Through it all were you, our friends and family, now intermingled—no longer 'Steph’s' or 'Eric’s,' but ours—supporting us through this ten-year journey and beyond. We're so excited to have you join us in beautiful Calvi, Corsica — in love and friendship, this celebration is for you!

Our Story

Photos

The Calvi Sainte-Catherine Airport (CLY) is only a 10 minute drive to the center of town (take that JFK!). There will be taxi drivers waiting when you exit the terminal (it might be wise to have Euros upon arrival — expect a ~€20 fare into town).Calvi has daily flight connections to/from:– Paris (*Orly)– Nice– Marseille– LyonMajor airlines like AirFrance, Volotea, and SWISS fly into Calvi, in addition to the regional carrier Air Corsica.– NYC has direct flights to Nice (Delta, United, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, and Air Europa), Marseille (United and SWISS), and Paris (most major airlines and discount carrier French Bee)– Los Angeles has direct flights to Paris (Delta, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, French Bee, Air Europa, and Air Tahiti)– London has direct flights to Nice, Marseille, Lyon, and Paris on major and discount carriers (we recommend searching LON to all 4 city options to find the best flight)– Washington has direct flights to Paris (Delta, United, Air France, and Lufthansa)Some pro-tips:*If transferring in Paris, it's important to note that Paris Orly is the airport that's connected to Calvi, while Paris Charles de Gaulle is the airport that's better connected overall ... we have done the CDG to ORY transfer via uber, bus, and train in the past — it's doable but you should allot at least 3 hours to do so, so if you need to connect through Paris, see if you can land in Orly rather than CDG, or bake-in extra time in Paris to account for traversing between airports.*If transferring in Nice, Marseille, or Lyon you'll likely be taking a short flight on the regional carrier Air Corsica. While there are daily flights to Calvi from all three, please check the Air Corsica website for flight times.*When planning a trip to a small airport like Calvi, we recommend running a few web searches for flights: 1) one all the way through to the final destination (e.g., NYC to CLY) and 2) another search to the nearest major connecting airport (e.g., NYC to Paris, or Nice), plus a separate search from the connecting city to Calvi – then compare results to find the best itinerary.*Sometimes search aggregators like Kayak or GoogleFlights don't catch all the Air Corsica options, so be sure to open search aggregator and airline company websites.Eric excels at all things trip planning, so please reach out to him if you have questions or need assistance

Corsica is called the "Island of Beauty" (L'Île de Beauté) for a reason!Much of the island is blessed with dramatic, contrasting landscapes – towering granite mountains, lush valleys, and cliffs plunging into the turquoise Mediterranean, hiding secluded beach after secluded beach. We decided to get married in Calvi, located in the northern Corsican Balagne region, because we fell for its jaw-dropping beauty and charm. We also think the Calvi area offers a bit of everything that makes Corsica so special: rugged mountains, hilltop towns, vineyard valleys, and a harbor town surrounded by beautiful beaches. Our weekend itinerary will present a beautiful array of different sights, scenes, and experiences for all our guests, but we've listed some additional activities in and around Calvi that might be of interest in between the festivities:– Take a walking tour of of the citadel, a 13th-century Genoese fortress perched on a promontory at at the end of town – offering panoramic views and a handful of cute cafes within the walls– Take a stroll along the harborfront corniche – enjoy the sea breeze and views of the boats from one of the dozens of restaurants and bars– Have your Belle / "Little Town" <<Beauty & the Beast>> moment and peruse the two main shopping streets in town (Blvd Wilson and Rue Georges Clemenceau), lined with bakeries, patisseries, restaurants, and shops– Grab a towel and head to Calvi beach – a 10 min walk from the center of town. You can lay out on the sand gratis, or visit any of the dozen+ beach clubs for a seated meal or chaise lounge ("transats" in Corsica). All types of watercraft can also be rented from various boat clubs on the beachFor those planning on spending more time in Corsica, there's a lot to see on the island beyond the Calvi area. We've spent time all over the island so please reach out to Eric if you want to discuss travelling around Corsica ideas
